VAT and Making Tax Digital (MTD)

MTD for VAT begins for periods began on 1 April 2019 and will result in most businesses changing the way in which they prepare VAT returns.

Brendan Cunningham

Brendan Cunningham

Founder and Senior Partner

A qualified accountant and partner in the Practice who brings over 40 years’ experience in construction, industrial and service sectors within the UK and internationally to his role within the firm. He has broad and in-depth experience in business planning, accounts preparation, tax planning and the complexities of farm/conacre accounting. He offers all clients this wide range of skills tailored to meet individual need and he will work diligently to help the client base control costs, improve profitability, and develop internal control systems to ensure that proprietors are fully aware of all cash and profit movements and the implications of major investment decisions.

Sean McPartland

Sean McPartland

Senior Partner

Sean, a qualified accountant and Partner in the Practice, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, with more than 30 years’ experience of providing tax and accountancy advice to a wide range of enterprises, including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.

Sean has wide experience of preparing accounts for charities and has up to date knowledge of topical issues such as self-employment in the construction industry and tax issues generally. Sean is keen to liaise with clients to monitor profitability and to provide advice to improve accounting systems.

Gerard Cunningham

Gerard Cunningham

Gerard has been with the firm for over 25 years. He has experience in all areas of accounts production, taxation and wages. Gerard specialises in Republic of Ireland tax and legislation. He also specialises is grant applications and PAYE expenses claims, for example mileage claims. He has in depth knowledge of IACS form, buying and selling of SFP Entitlements.

Margaret Cunningham

Margaret Cunningham

Margaret is a qualified accountant with 10+ years’ experience of providing tax accountancy advice to a diverse client base. Margaret maintains an up-to-date knowledge of current issues and changing legislation. She strives to provide high quality services tailored to each individual business. Margaret has a background in HR and is a professional member of CIPD. She has a wide knowledge of employment legislation and advice.

Cathy Smyth

Cathy Smyth

An honours graduate in accountancy, Cathy has been with the Firm for over 30 years. She has vast experience in all areas, but specialises in the management of client’s payroll systems, both in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, and the operation of the self-employed construction scheme. Cathy strives to provide friendly informative service to a diverse client base.

Diane Wilson

Diane Wilson

Diane joined Cunningham & McPartland Accountants in 2013 as a Trainee and qualified from Accounting Technicians Ireland in 2016. She then moved on to work industry. She worked in an Information technology consultancy firm in the accounts department. Diane then returned to Cunningham & McPartland in 2019. She has wide knowledge and understanding of preparing accounts for sole traders, Partnerships and Companies. Her role in the business is to prepare clients’ accounts to trail balance stage, submit tax returns to HMRC and general administration duties.

Danielle Brown

Danielle Brown

Danielle has worked for Cunningham & McPartland since 2016, she completed her Higher-Level Apprenticeship with Accounting Technicians Ireland through the business. She has a wide knowledge of preparing accounts for Sole Traders, Partnership and Companies and also has a great understanding for completing Self Employed and Partnership Tax Returns and filling them online. Her role in the business is to complete accounts up to trial balance stage, to fill in and file tax returns online and general administration.

Geraldine Sloan

Geraldine Sloan

An accountancy graduate, Geraldine has over 20 years’ experience preparing accounts for a range of enterprises including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.

Zoe Lewis

Zoe Lewis

Zoe has worked with Cunningham & McPartland since 2008 and have completed my Institute of Accounting Technicians qualifications. She prepares accounts to trial balance stage for sole traders, partnerships and companies. Zoe has a wide understanding in preparing and submitting of company accounts. She also has great experience of using Sage Line 50 and other programmes to help with accounts preparation.

Sylwia Trojanowska

Sylwia Trojanowska

Sylwia has worked with Cunningham & McPartland since 2018. She completed her Higher Professional Study Programme with the title of Bachelor of Economics. Her role in the business is to complete accounts up to trial balance stage for sole traders, partnerships and companies.

Eileen Quinn

Eileen Quinn

Eileen has worked for Cunningham and McPartland since 2018. Eileen has an extensive understanding of VAT. Her role within the business is to prepare and submit UK VAT returns to HMRC, prepare Republic of Ireland and DIY VAT Returns, and general administration duties. She is also working to gain more experience in accounts production.

Lauren Wilson

Lauren Wilson

Lauren is a qualified Accounts Technician after completing my Apprenticeship in Accounting. Lauren have over 3 years practical experience in accounting and newly joined the practice in July 2021. Lauren has a wide understanding and knowledge of preparing accounts for a variety of clients.

Job Vacancy

Cunningham & McPartland is a long-established practice with a proven track record in a wide range of Accountancy and Business Services.

We have an immediate vacancy for the following:

OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR (MATERNITY COVER)

We are now recruiting an office administrator to join the team.

The post holder will be a key member of staff being involved in the main day to day running of a busy accountancy office. The duties will include reception, general administration, filing and photocopying, calendar management, checking in books and records, preparing VAT returns and some invoicing/debt collection work.

The role may also involve accountancy assistant duties for which training and support will be given and may lead to longer term opportunities within this practice.

ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT (TEMPORARY UNTIL 31 JANUARY 2023)

As an Accounts Assistant you will gain valuable experience working with trained staff to complete accounts up to trial balance stage and gain experience on other accountancy related tasks.

The successful candidate will have a good standard of education (5 A-C GCSEs including English and Maths or equivalent), have some relevant work experience, the ability to prioritise work and be able deal effectively with clients. Desirable criteria would include an Accounting Technician Qualification (full or part qualified).
